Submission Guidelines
TYPES OF WORKS
Currently, Southern Arizona Press (SAP) is only accepting poetry. This can be strict form, blank verse, free verse, concrete poetry, etc.
SUBMITTING YOUR WORKS
Works – There is no limit as to how many works can be submitted for each anthology. Submit each of your works as an individual Word (.doc or .docx) file labeled with the title of the work and the author’s name (i.e. Sonnet – John Doe). Include in the email which publication for which you are intending to submit the work. Multiple works for a single anthology can be submitted in the same email. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) - By submitting any work to Southern Arizona Press, the author is certifying that no type of AI has been used in the creation of the work. Submissions that are found to have used AI in their creation will be removed from publication and that submitting author will be banned from submitting any future works to Southern Arizona Press.

Biography – Submit a short biography (no more than 200 words) and a good resolution photograph with your submission (Depending on the publication, including of a photograph will be at the discretion of the publisher). Your biography and photograph will remain on file with SAP and may be used in future publications. You are encouraged to update your biography and photograph as necessary. Biography may include any or all of the following: age, heritage, current residence, education, past work experiences, hobbies, previously published works, past inclusion in anthologies or magazines, poetry awards, social media links, websites, etc. SAP reserves the right to modify or edit a biography as they see fit to adhere to formatting and space limitations in each publication. Any edited version of a biography will be sent to the contributor for review and approval before publication.
Previously Published Works – We welcome previously published material. If the submitted work has been previously published, we request you include a list of venues (books, anthologies, magazines, e-zines, websites, blogs, etc) where the work has been previously published along with the submission so it can be properly cited in our publication out of respect for the original publisher. This includes works previously published in your own collections.

All submissions will be read using a blind selection process (where the author's name is removed from the work) following the submission deadline. Decisions on whether or not to include a work will be emailed to you following the decision process.
USE OF SUBMITTED MATERIAL
Works can be submitted to SAP for specific publications or as a general submission to be included in current or future publications as SAP sees fit. SAP reserves the right to use all submitted material in current and/or future publications unless the rightful owner requests for their works to be removed from consideration to SAP in writing. Once published, a work cannot be removed until such time that an updated edition of the anthology may be released.
COPYRIGHT
By submitting your work to SAP, you attest that the work is your own and you hold all publishing and distribution rights to the submitted work.
By submitting your work for consideration, you grant SAP to use the work in any of our current or future publications, unless you notify us in writing to withdraw the work from consideration for publication. You also grant permission to for us or any of our subsidiaries, to read or print examples of your work for promotional purposes on radio shows, YouTube, or other online media formats. You retain full copyright of your work and will always be credited as the author of the work.
Although SAP holds the copyright for each published collective anthology, each individual contributor holds the copyright for each of their individual works.
FORMATTING AND EDITING
Your work will be formatted at the discretion of the publisher to provide the best appearance within the publication. This may include corrections in punctuation, capitalization, or spelling, although works should be submitted in a final edited form.
A draft in PDF (Portable Document Format) of each publication will be sent out to all individual contributors prior to publication for review. Individuals will have 7 days to review their respective works and respond with any needed corrections. After the 7-day review period, it will be understood that each author has accepted the appearance of their work for publication. Works that require extensive editing may not be considered. In some cases, works requiring editing may be returned to the author with editor suggestions for approval prior to inclusion in SAP publications.
PAYMENT
Currently, we are not able to offer payment or physical copies of the anthologies to our contributors but offer electronic versions PDFs of each publication as a free download to all contributors and the public.
PROMOTION
We allow a section of each book as well as a page on our website to promote contributor’s books or websites. We encourage all contributors to refer to our Book Promotions tab to explore works by other contributors, or find the requirements to submit your own books, websites, or blogs to be included on this tab. As much as possible, contributors promotional material will be included in each anthology where their works appear. SAP reserves the right to limit the individual space each contributor is allotted in each publication due to content restrictions.
PRINTED COPIES
Printed copies of SAP anthologies and other works are made available through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing in print format. All contributors who have works included in any of our anthologies are eligible to purchase hard copies of any of the Southern Arizona Press anthologies at a reduced price directly from SAP. Contributors interested in purchasing copies should email SAP at sales@SouthernArizonaPress.com with their request to receive more information regarding this program.
